Mitchell & Associates, PLLC is a Certified Public Accounting firm with roots that date back more than 20 years. The firm’s office began in a single room and has steadily grown to its present location at 812 Second Street in Henderson, Kentucky, where it has been located since October 1, 2004.

The firm was originally founded in Spottsville, Kentucky, by Robert E. Mitchell in December 1999 at his kitchen table with encouragement and counsel of his wife, April. He had had a successful beginning to his public accounting career at York Neel & Company, where he began in 1988 as an intern and rose to partner in 1997. Two years later, he formed his own firm, Mitchell & Associates, PLLC, which initially operated out of a spare bedroom in Rob and April Mitchell’s home.

In 2003, Rob Mitchell partnered with S. Martin McElroy, Jr. (a former partner with York, Neel & Company) to form McElroy, Mitchell & Associates, LLP with two locations in Henderson and Morganfield, Kentucky. In October 2010, the firm added a third location with the opening of a satellite office in Owensboro, Kentucky. They practiced together for 14 years until the retirement of Martin McElroy on December 31, 2017.

McElroy, Mitchell & Associates, LLP (Henderson Office) was merged into the regional accounting firm of Riney Hancock CPAs, PSC with Rob Mitchell becoming a shareholder and managing that firm’s third location. After 23 months, a demerger occurred and Mitchell & Associates, PLLC was reorganized and reborn on December 1, 2019.

The firm today has more than 10 team members, including Managing Member Rob Mitchell, professional staff, para-professional staff and administrative support staff. The firm has solid roots with its sole location in Henderson, Kentucky.
